We want our Geography pupils to learn about today’s world to enable them to make sustainable choices about planning for tomorrow’s.

The Geography courses followed deal with important aspects of modern Geography. They focus our human endeavour to make the most effective use of world resources and to live in harmony with the environment.

Key Stage 3:  Northern Ireland Curriculum


There is an external exam at the end of each unit. This test lasts for 1 hour 30 minutes and includes 3 questions based on the themes above. This exam is available to sit every summer.

Unit 1 and Unit 2 are both worth 37.5% of the total GCSE grade.

The remaining 25% is completed in a controlled assessment task.

Extra-Curricular Activities

The Geography Department organises the Environmental Club. This is an after school club that allows pupils to improve an aspect of their local environment. The Club is organised by Mrs S. Byrne and is on every Tuesday after school in DG1.

There have been outstanding successes since the Environmental Club started in 2002 including:

Geography outside the Classroom:

Developing opportunities for students to study Geography outside the classroom is a key element of our policy. Pupils experience different places and environments.
